Qazi Haider Ali: A Basketball Legend

Qazi Haider Ali was a legendary basketball player. Born in Peshawar in 1967, Haider Ali hails from Abbottabad (Dhamtore). He began his basketball journey at Government High School No. 1 in Abbottabad, which had a strong team. Haider captained the team and played as captain throughout his school, college, and university years. Known for his defensive skills and exceptional talent, Haider Ali made his mark in basketball history.

Haider Ali was a student of Brigadier Rashid Ali Malik (Asia’s best player and captain of the national basketball team). He captained the Hazara Division Basketball Team and the National Basketball Team of Pakistan. Haider won a gold medal at the National Championship in Peshawar and led his team to victory in the All Pakistan Basketball Tournament in 1995.

In 1995, Haider Ali joined the Pakistan Ordnance Factory. Under his captaincy, the Pakistan Ordnance Factory team won numerous matches. He rejoined as the captain of the Pakistan Ordnance Factory Basketball Team in 2005.

Currently, Haider Ali is the head coach of the Pakistan Ordnance Factory Basketball Team in Havelian (2024).
