Abdul Waheed Khan was one of the most flamboyant former Pakistani hockey players. Born on November 30, 1936, in Rajpur, Madhya Pradesh, India, he made a remarkable impact as a centre forward.

Known for his clever play and excellent passing skills, Abdul Waheed shined during the 1960 Rome Olympics, scoring in victories over Poland (8-0) and Japan (10-0). He led Pakistan to a gold medal at the 1962 Jakarta Asian Games, where he set a record with seventeen goals, including a hat-trick against Malaya in the semifinals and a crucial goal in the gold medal win against India.

After his playing days, Abdul Waheed continued to contribute to Pakistani hockey as a national team manager. Under his tenure in 1980, Pakistan clinched the World Cup, Asian Games, and Champions Trophy.

Abdul Waheed Khan passed away on February 21, 2022, in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and inspiration for future generations.
