Remembering Nasir Bholu: The Last of the Bholu Brothers
Nasir Bholu, born in 1960, hails from the legendary Gama wrestling family and was the last remaining member of the famous ‘Bholu Brothers’ wrestling team. He was a dominant force in Pakistani wrestling during the 1980s.
Nasir made a remarkable debut by defeating Yasir Ali from the United Arab Emirates and became the 1982 Asian Champion after beating David Stalford in Bangladesh. His impressive victories include triumphs over The Assassin, 1968 Olympic medalist Hurricane Mike Hennessey, and Indian wrestler Kanwal Jeet Singh.
Antonio Inoki recognized Nasir’s exceptional talent and invited him to train in Japan. However, due to opposition from his elders, Nasir declined the offer.
Nasir retired from wrestling in 1990, marking the end of the ‘Bholu Brothers’ era. His career ended prematurely due to the lack of training facilities in Pakistan. Today, Nasir resides in Lahore, managing a few gyms, although he is no longer directly involved in wrestling.
Tragically, during a friendly fight in 1981, a flying kick from Nasir accidentally killed Goga Pahalwan. Despite this, Nasir Bholu remains a celebrated figure in the history of Pakistani wrestling.
