Honoring Zubair Aslam Jhara: An Unbeaten Legend in Pakistani Wrestling
Zubair Aslam, known to many as Jhara, was a prominent Pakistani wrestler who remained unbeaten during his short but impactful career. Born into a wrestling dynasty, he was the son of Aslam Pahalwan, Nasir Bholu’s younger brother.
Jhara joined the renowned ‘Bholu Brothers’ as they neared the end of their professional wrestling careers. Possibly the best Pakistani wrestler of his time, Jhara received training from some of the top coaches in the country.
In 1979, Jhara achieved a significant victory by defeating world martial arts champion Antonio Inoki of Japan. This match not only cemented his legacy but also led to a strong friendship with Inoki.
Throughout his career, Jhara defeated several international wrestlers, including Jules Strongbow (USA) and SD Jones (ANT). He also triumphed over local Pakistani wrestlers such as Zawar Multani, Goga Gujranwalia, Abbas Multani, and Bahawalpur champion Ghulam Qadir.
Sadly, Jhara’s career was cut short when he passed away from cardiac arrest at the age of 30 on 10 September 1991. He was laid to rest at the Bholu Pahalwan Gymnasium in Lahore, Pakistan. Jhara’s legacy continues to inspire wrestling enthusiasts in Pakistan and beyond.
