The Higher Education Commission All Pakistan Chess (Male) Intervarsity Championship 2022 successfully concluded here at the campus of Mirpur University of Science and Technology.
The tournament was co-organized and hosted by Mirpur University of Science and Technology and Elite Sports Pakistan in a befitting manner.
The eighteen university teams participated from all over Pakistan. The officials and participants took part in the event enthusiastically. The players showed keenness, sportsman spirit, tolerance, and teamwork in the competitions.
The arena witnessed day-long contests on the mental battlefield among participating universities team and some exciting marches of mental toughness, patience, and wisdom come to the notice.
Chess is being regarded as the Kings game and quite popular in the culture of the subcontinent since the days of the Mughal Emperors. The regular practice of chess stimulates cognitive development, patience, and mental toughness in the students and is strongly required to be persuaded in the academic institutions these days.
At the prize distribution ceremony, organizers Congratulated all the Participating universities teams and distributed souvenirs, trophies, and cash prizes among the officials and players of the winning teams.
The University of Lahore team was declared the overall winner of the tournament whereas the University of Punjab, Lahore team secured 2nd position and Comsat University Islamabad team third position last but not the least NUMAL University Islamabad placed 4th position in the championship.
Over the occasion, Mr. Abid Director of Sports MUST Congratulated the position holders and thanked all the participants and officials of the teams and Elite Sports Pakistan Pvt Limited for their dedicated support and joint venturing into the event. Mr. Muzammil Khan Wazeeri Chief Operating Officer also Congratulated the winning teams and thanked Director Sports MUST and other officials for providing an opportunity to co-organize and host such event and pave the way for the public-private partnership to organize and hold such sports competitions for the uplift and development of the sports in Pakistan.
He also announced an International tour for both the male and female champions of the said Intervarsity champions. It’s regarded a golden opportunity for the winner and runner-up teams to play in ESP International South Asian universities events. The male and female champions and position holder teams of the respective universities of all Pakistan Chess (Male-Female) Intervarsity Championships 2022 will take part in the said ESP South Aian Universities Games. The ESP also offered its services and financial assistance to the participating universities in terms of joint ventures and establishing a public-private partnership to hold such Intervarsity events. The Elite Sports Pakistan Pvt Limited is striving for the Commercialization of university sports in Pakistan through a public-private partnership.
In this endeavor, it has been joint venturing, co-organizing, hosting, funding, and sponsoring university-level sports competitions of such sports disciplines which are commercially viable and could generate revenue for the universities and players.
